The inaugural Newcastle Writers Festival was held in 2013 and since then, it has become one of the Hunter Region's leading cultural events, attracting Australia's leading writers and thinkers. Michael Robotham will be our special guest as part of the 2019 Festival Program.
Before becoming a novelist, Michael was an investigative journalist working across America, Australia and Britain. As a journalist he has investigated notorious cases such as the serial killer couple Fred and Rosemary West. He has also worked with clinical and forensic psychologists as they helped police investigate complex, psychologically driven crimes.
Michael's 2004 debut thriller, 'The Suspect', sold more than one million copies around the world. It is the first of nine novels featuring clinical psychologist Joe O'Loughlin, who faces his own increasing battle with a potentially debilitating disease.
In 2015, he won the UK's prestigious Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger Award with his stand-alone thriller 'Life or Death' and in 2018 won the Australian Book Industry Award for General Fiction Book of the Year with 'The Secret She Keeps.'
His latest book is 'The Other Wife' and he has an upcoming release called 'Good Girl, Bad Girl.' This event will be hosted by award winning author Barry Maitland. Michael will be signing books after the event.
