Formed in Perth through a mutual love of exotic rhythms and odd-time signatures, Number Junky is a guitar-led trio that plays warped jazz standards and number-crunching original music while retaining a focus on lyrical melodies and lush harmony.
The group is made up of forward-thinking jazz improvisers - former London-based acclaimed Danish guitarist and composer Kristian Borring and the exciting rhythm section of Zac Grafton on double-bass and Peter Evans on drums, both originally from the eastern states and now thriving players in Perth.
Number Junky launches their anticipated debut album 'Earth Matters' at Lyric's Underground. Expect an amazing night of jazz featuring special guest pianist Harry Mitchell with support from trumpeter, Jess Carlton.
"Borring’s composition display a lyricism as well as logic that takes the listener on a journey and inspires further listening." – Garry Lee, Seesaw Magazine (AUS)
"Intense and cool playing" – Jazz Special (DK)
"Kristian’s original compositions are immediately attractive and enduringly impressive" - Chris Parker, London Jazz (UK)
Supported by The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
