Relay for Life is a fun filled 24-hour event of team building, laughter, celebration and remembrance. It is a team event like no other in Western Australia, which embraces the passion and spirit of the community at large. Teams of 10–15 people challenge themselves to complete a 24-hour relay-style walk or run to keep the baton moving around the track to signify that cancer never sleeps—so neither do we.
Team fundraising for this event commences months before the event itself so we also take the time to recognize the fantastic efforts of all teams. Prize incentives for highest fundraising team, best costume, best decorated tent site and most laps by a team and an individual all help to add to the atmosphere.
The most moving segment of Relay for Life is the Candlelight Ceremony. A time when everyone comes together to pay tribute to the special people in their lives who are fighting, have fought or lost their battle with cancer. Candle tributes bearing personal messages of love and support are placed around the track. The candles burn throughout the night, reminding the walkers ‘why they Relay and inspire them to never give up. As the word HOPE shines out over the venue, a pensive silence of remembrance and prayers of hope make this the most powerful moment of Relay for Life.
