Rachmaninoff - Trio élégiaque No. 2, Op. 9

Written as a memorial for his mentor Tchaikovsky, this is a monumental and passionate work from the then twenty-year-old Rachmaninoff. Whilst not a musician particularly associated with chamber music, his personal virtuosic piano skills were displayed at its premiere. Celestial moments descend into dark despair; feelings all too familiar to the dedicated.
